Course Description

In the workplace, management is responsible for ensuring practices control the dangers posed by hazardous materials and chemicals. Employees must collaborate in implementing agreed procedures. Management also prevents uncontrolled environmental releases and ensures all wastes are disposed of safely and with proper regard for their environmental impact. The aims of this course are to raise awareness and help participants identify, assess, and control the hazards of chemicals and other hazardous materials to permit optimum exploitation whilst minimizing the dangers.

This course will help participants identify and understand the hazards associated with hazardous materials and chemicals. It will also help them reduce or eliminate potential exposure to hazardous materials in their workplace.

• Identify both their employer’s and their own legal obligations.
• Identify the Legislation controlling the use of chemicals in the workplace.
• Describe the basic principles of chemical storage.
• Identify the major chemical hazards in their workplace.
• Describe the benefits and limitations of personal protective equipment.
