Course Description

Knowing a few simple rules will help you stay safe on the water. Since there are so many different types of boats, boating activities and styles of boating, it is important to know what to expect when you come upon another vessel and what your obligations are. The term “vessel” includes anything that floats on the water that is used or is capable of being used as a means of transportation on water. Therefore, practically everything you encounter on the water is considered a vessel and as such, must know, understand and abide by the Navigation Rules. The Navigation Rules cover steering rules akin to rules of the road, sound signaling equipment and requirements, and a section on navigation lights. This course covers the topics related to coastal navigation rule of the road and chart work.

Course Goal

To enhance the participants’ knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to safely navigate a boat by day and by night in coastal waters with which they are familiar.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course the participant will be able to:

• Understand Weather conditions
• Determine Sources of weather forecasts
• Explain the significance of commonly used terms in marine forecasts.
• Identify the significance of common weather patterns illustrated on synoptic chart
• Read a chart or map using topographical features, navigation marks and / or a compass.
• Describe the effects of compass deviation and variation.
• Use transits to fix position and hold a course.
• Use Navigation equipment:
• Understand how to Enter and depart a harbor.
• Obtain the information needed to devise a passage plan.
• Accurately predict how much fuel you will need.
• Determine The effect tides can have on his powerboating activities.
• Apply Tidal heights and rates of flow for any port when planning activities.
• Identify the type, aspect and behavior of vessels by day and by night from navigation
• Identify the correct navigation lights and day shapes.
• Understand and use maneuvering (sound) signals.
• Correctly use of radio, sound and visual communications in emergency situations
• Know In what circumstances should request assistance
• Manage a medical emergency afloat.
• Be familiar with Causes, symptoms & remedies for Hypothermia, Sea sickness, Sun stroke, Dehydration

• تحديد تأثير المد والجزر على أنشطة ركوب الزوارق.
• تطبيق ارتفاعات المد والجزر ومعدلات التدفق لأي منفذ عند تخطيط الأنشطة.
• تحديد نوع السفينة وسلوكها ليلاً ونهارًا من التنقل.
• تحديد أضواء الملاحة الصحيحة والأشكال الصباحية.
• فهم واستخدام إشارات المناورة الصوتية.
• الاستخدام الصحيح للإذاعة والاتصالات البصرية والصوتية في حالات الطوارئ.
• التعرف في أي ظروف يجب طلب المساعدة.
• إدارة الطوارئ الطبية.
• التعرف على الأسباب والأعراض والعلاج لخفض حرارة الجسم ودوار البحر وضربة الشمس والجفاف.
